SERVICE PROVIDER FOR A PRIVATELY DEVELOPEDÂ PLAN FOR YOUR HOMESCHOOL
Developing A Private Plan for your Special Needs Child
Oregon Homeschooling Laws provide for a Privately Developed Plan (PDP) in lieu of a public school Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for students who meet the eligibility criteria. Therefore you can legally home educate your special needs child. You can choose a service provider for your PDP services.
Together we write goals to meet Satisfactory Educational Progress. Thus you can legally opt out of Oregon's mandated standardized testing or choose a modified approach to standardized testing. As your service provider, based upon your child's social, academic and emotional levels, together we can create academic, social and life goals.
Prior to our initial consultation, you will provide a copy of legal documents signed by a physician, a psychologist or qualified test administrator, stating that your child does qualify for PDP services. At our first meeting we will view your child's recent academic work and discuss your goals based upon your child's and family's needs. Next we will write the goals and discuss methods and resources.
The goals need not be complex. Obtainable, bite size goals equal success! Throughout the school year, you will keep copies of your child's work to show satisfactory educational progress pertaining to the set goals and you will record when specific goals are met.
At our mid year meetings, we will look at your child's progress via your goal sheet. Revising goals is always an option. At the end of the academic year, you and I will sign the Satisfactory Educational Progress Report. An example form is provided in the OHEN link below. You need to keep the form in your records and/or remit to your local ESD upon their request.
I want you to educate your child with purpose. Understanding your child's needs, writing goals and teaching toward those goals and recording when a goal is accomplished, keeps your family on track and builds your confidence and your child's confidence.
